      About us

The seeds of BioAware were sown 20 years ago when Dr. Vincent Robert wanted to identify yeasts isolated from the African tropical forest and found it impossible using dichotomic keys. He developed some basic software solutions to solve his problems. The first projects were realized in an academic context. But the demand for biological resource management software was so important that the settlement of a private structure was the next logical step.

BioAware was established in July 2000 as a spin-off of the Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures (an institute of the Royal Academy of Sciences in The Netherlands) but was registered in Belgium under the form of a limited company. Dr. Vincent Robert is one of the two co-founders of the company.

The team

BioAware started on a small pace and has grown gradually. The current team is composed of several senior developers and researchers. They are based in Belgium and in Tunisia. Since BioAware is a spin-off of the Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures (CBS-KNAW) in The Netherlands, a strong relationship was build between the two working groups and developers of both teams are joining efforts to make our products and services more efficient. Since 2008, BioAware has also developed strong links with WhiteCapeTech in Tunisia where several developers are working for us.
